PART 4: The Panic at the Table
A deafening silence fell over the entire table.
Chris immediately pulled out his phone and tried to call me. I let it ring twice before declining the call and sending a short text to the family group chat:
“I decided to take your advice—dinner really is easier this way! Hope everyone enjoyed their meal.”
Panic erupted around the table. Nobody had brought enough cash, and half of Chris’s siblings claimed their cards would decline if they tried to split a three-thousand-dollar tab.
The manager was called over as arguments broke out between the brothers over who ordered the extra bottles of wine and who should pay for the takeout boxes.
Chris was forced to front his personal debit card, clearing out his entire monthly fun allowance to cover the immediate balance while his family scrambles to transfer him money.
How did the situation resolve when Chris got home? Continue reading Part 5 below for the final confrontation.
