PART 2: The Silent Question

Noah took a step forward, tilting his head as he looked at Daniel’s pale, rigid face.

“Are you the man who left Mama when we were just tiny dots?” he asked, his voice clear and completely innocent in the heavy silence of the living room.

Daniel’s mouth opened, but no sound came out. He staggered back a pace, his heel catching on the edge of the Persian rug.

His mother, Eleanor, rushed forward, ignoring the broken glass on the porch. Her hands trembled as she looked down at the four faces staring back at her—each carrying her late husband’s high cheekbones and Daniel’s deep brown eyes.

“Quadruplets…” Eleanor whispered, her voice cracking as tears filled her eyes. “Daniel… you said she lied. You told us there was no baby.”

“I… I thought…” Daniel stammered, sweat breaking out on his forehead despite the draft from the open front door. “She was lying to keep me from leaving…”

How did his girlfriend react to the revelation? Continue reading Part 3 below for the confrontation.
