PART 3: The Waiter’s Delivery
I walked out to the parking lot, got into my car, and drove to a cozy café three blocks away to enjoy a slice of cheesecake in complete peace.
Back at the restaurant, the feast finally came to an end. The table was piled high with empty dessert plates, half-full wine glasses, and multiple takeout boxes filled with leftovers for the week.
When the server finally approached the head of the table, he placed a itemized bill totaling nearly $3,200 right in the center of the table.
“Oh, just give that to her,” Chris’s sister said, casually pointing to my empty chair. “She must still be in the powder room.”
The server smiled politely. “Actually, ma’am, the lady paid for her portion thirty minutes ago and left the building. This bill is for the remaining twelve guests.”
