Daniel opened the thick binder on the counter, revealing page after page of hand-written notes, contractor schedules, and medical equipment delivery receipts stamped over the last fourteen days.

“Every short text I sent you was typed from a hardware store aisle or while waiting for permit approvals,” Daniel confessed, dropping his head into his hands. “I hated every single second I couldn’t hold your hand in that room. But I swore to myself that when you stepped through that front door, you wouldn’t feel like a patient entering a hurdle—you’d feel safe.”

The resentment that had burned inside me for two weeks evaporated completely, replaced by an overwhelming wave of gratitude and love for a man who had carried the heaviest weight in total silence just to protect my recovery.

I stood up from the chair, wrapped my arms around his shoulders, and buried my face in his neck as we both let the tears fall.
