PART 3: The Secret Medical Records
“What that woman doesn’t know,” Lily said, pulling a folded piece of paper from inside her graduation gown, “is that we didn’t just learn about her return today. Two months ago, Gabriella and Nora found an old file in our attic while looking for family photos.”
Beside me in the audience, Gabriella turned as pale as a sheet, gripping Nora’s hand tightly. I looked at them in complete shock—I had locked those old records away nearly fifteen years ago.
“Inside that file were medical reports from the month we were born,” Lily revealed, her voice tightening with emotion. “Our blindness wasn’t an unavoidable accident from delivery complications. It was caused by severe prenatal neglect and substance exposure that our biological mother hid throughout her pregnancy.”
A collective gasp echoed across the hundreds of parents and students in the stadium. Clarissa took a step back, her hands beginning to tremble as every eye in the room landed on her.
