PART 2: THE UNNOTICED BOND

I stood frozen on the porch, my hands gripping my coat as a cold breeze swept between us.

“Everything about what?” I asked, my voice barely louder than a whisper as my stomach churned with dread.

The woman, who looked to be in her late fifties, stepped back into her foyer and gestured for me to come inside.

Her house was filled with quiet warmth, but my eyes immediately caught a framed photograph resting on the hallway table.

It was a picture of Zane from thirty years ago, smiling warmly while standing beside a young boy in a little league baseball uniform.

My heart slammed against my ribs as I realized Zane had possessed an entire family line I knew absolutely nothing about.
