PART 2: THE UNMASKING OF DIANE STONE

Gabriel stood in the doorway, his face turning pale as his eyes darted from his mother’s hands to the floor littered with white lace and silk. Behind him, the venue manager gasped, immediately recognizing the thousands of dollars in property damage and irreplaceable heirloom fabric.

Diane dropped the scissors onto the carpet with a metallic thud, trying instantly to fix her posture and compose her expression. “Gabriel, sweetie, this isn’t what it looks like,” she stammered, stepping toward her son with her hands raised in defense. “We found the dress damaged and were simply trying to alter it so Maya could wear the family heirloom instead!”

Lauren nodded frantically, clutching the pink satin gown they had brought as a replacement. “Yes, Gabriel! She’s overreacting! We were just trying to save the wedding!”

I didn’t utter a single word. Instead, I pressed play on my phone, setting the volume to maximum as the speaker filled the room with their true, unedited voices.

Every insult, every malicious laugh, and Diane’s cold demand—“She will sign the agreement. And she will learn how this family works”—echoed clearly across the suite.
