THE FORGOTTEN PROMISE

PART 4: BEAUTY FROM THE ASHES

The following morning, I stood before the iron gates of Evelyn’s estate, holding the stack of returned letters in my hand.

When she opened the door, her face drained of all color as she saw me standing beside Daniel, our wedding bands gleaming in the morning light.

I didn’t yell, nor did I demand money or restitution; I simply handed her the tied bundle of stolen letters and turned my back on her forever.

The guilt in her eyes was a heavier sentence than any court could ever hand down, leaving her alone in her silent, cold mansion.

Daniel and I returned home, unpacked the ivory prom dress from the attic, and framed a piece of its delicate lace alongside our new marriage certificate.

We had lost decades to a cruel lie, but standing together in the sunset of our lives, surrounded by true love and absolute honesty, we finally found our peace.
