“The shipment is ready,” Brian said into the phone, his tone cold and entirely unfamiliar. “My wife is completely blind, so I can move the remaining pieces out of the house by tomorrow morning without any risk.”
“Are you sure she doesn’t suspect anything?” the voice on the speaker asked. “An operation this size is dangerous.”
“She trusts me completely,” Brian replied with a quiet, callous laugh. “Her vision loss was the best thing that ever happened to my business. She has no idea what’s right in front of her.”
The words cut deeper than any physical blade. The husband who had lovingly guided me across streets and carried my groceries had viewed my disability as his ultimate security shield.
