Inside the envelope was the full settlement from Marcus’s family estate—money that had been rightfully set aside to repay my grandfather’s noble sacrifice thirty years ago.
“This is yours, lost interest included,” Marcus said, placing a heavy hand on Grandpa’s shoulder. “And as for the physical therapy… my motorcycle club runs a regional charity for youth rehabilitation. You’re not sewing another blanket alone.”
Tears streamed down Grandpa’s face as he pulled the rough-looking biker into a tight embrace, thirty years of hidden pain finally lifting off his chest.
Within two weeks, the biker club organized a massive charity ride that raised more than enough funds to cover my specialized physical therapy for the next two years.
Grandpa finally got to rest his tired hands, and six months later, with his arm supporting me on one side and Marcus on the other, I took my very first steps again.
