PART 4: The Biker’s Choice

The silence between them felt heavier than the hum of the crowd around us. Marcus’s rough demeanor completely melted away as he processed the decades of sacrifice my grandfather had silently carried on his shoulders.

He looked down at the handmade children’s blankets stacked neatly on our table, then at my wheelchair, and finally back at Grandpa’s tired, weathered face.

“You’ve been paying off my father’s debt this whole time…” Marcus said, his voice dropping to a thick whisper. “And now you’re working yourself to the bone for your grandchild?”

Marcus reached into his leather vest, pulling out a heavy, thick envelope he had brought with him.

“My father passed away last year,” Marcus said, setting the heavy package on top of our blankets. “Before he died, he confessed that he had lied to me about why you left. I spent twenty years tracking you down to give you this.”
