PART 3: THE CHAIRWOMAN REVEALED
“There must be a mistake!” Austin pleaded into the phone, his arrogant voice reduced to a desperate whimper. “I’ve dedicated years to this company! You can’t do this without the Chairwoman’s direct approval!”
I reached over to my nightstand, picked up my personal tablet, and tapped the screen to connect to the executive board’s private network.
“She already approved it, Austin,” I said softly, turning the screen toward him.
Displayed on the high-resolution monitor was the official corporate registry of Apex Logistics, listing the primary shareholder holding 51% controlling interest: Elena Mercer-Parker.
Austin stared at the screen in utter horror, his jaw dropping as the truth hit him like a physical blow. “Elena… you? No, this is impossible… you’re just a preschool volunteer!”
“I allowed you to believe I was unemployed so you could feel proud of your career,” I said, my tone ice-cold. “I built Apex Logistics long before I met you, and I placed you in that position to test your integrity.”
His mother stumbled back against the wall, clutching her chest as she realized the woman she had treated like a servant was the actual owner of her son’s entire livelihood.
“Elena, please!” Austin dropped from the chair onto his knees on the cold hospital floor, grabbing the edge of my bedsheet. “I was foolish! I’ll break off the offshore accounts, I’ll return every cent! Please don’t involve the FBI!”
“It’s too late for apologies, Austin,” I replied, pressing a button on my tablet to confirm the immediate termination of his contract. “The federal authorities have already been notified of your financial crimes.”
As if on cue, two uniformed officers stepped into the ER room, holding a federal warrant for Austin Parker’s arrest.
