“You broke your leg, not your hands! Order an Uber home right now and serve dinner for my mother!”

Austin’s voice boomed through the speakerphone. Cold. Entitled.

I was lying in an ER bed with my right leg in a full cast and eight stitches in my calf after a hit-and-run driver struck me four hours earlier.

Before I could finally reach my phone, Austin had left fifty-two missed calls on my screen.

“I’m in the ER,” I whispered, holding back tears of exhaustion. “My leg is broken.”

He laughed—a harsh, mocking sound that echoed through the small hospital room.

“Today is the family gathering,” he barked. “The house is packed, my mother hasn’t eaten, and you promised to cook! Stop acting like a broken leg is the end of the world!”

The ER doctor froze mid-charting, while the attending nurse glared at the phone with pure rage on my behalf.

After three years of enduring his disrespect, that single phone call shattered the last illusion I had left of our marriage.

“Listen carefully, Austin,” I said, enunciating every word clearly. “Starting today, I will never serve your family again. And I will never be your wife again. I’m filing for divorce.”

A brief silence fell over the line before he completely roared into the receiver.

“You wouldn’t dare! If we divorce, I’m keeping the luxury condo, the SUV, and the $1.2M in our joint account! Let’s see how a jobless freeloader like you survives on the streets with a crippled leg!”

“Don’t forget, I am a REGIONAL DIRECTOR at Apex Logistics,” he boasted arrogantly. “How could you possibly fight me?”

I hung up without saying another word.

As soon as the nurse stepped out to gather my discharge papers, I made one encrypted call from the quiet hospital room.

“Jonathan. I need the complete employment file of Austin Parker, Regional Director of Apex Logistics. And I want a surprise audit at his office immediately.”

On the other end, our supreme legal counsel responded with utmost reverence: “Would you like us to reveal your true identity to him now, Madam Chairwoman?”

I looked down at the fresh cast on my leg, a cold smirk touching my lips. “Not yet.”

Fifteen minutes later, the double doors of the ER burst open, and Austin stormed in with his mother trailing behind him.

Neither of them asked how I was feeling or looked at my medical chart. Instead, Austin crossed his arms, looking down at me with a triumphant, cruel smile.

“Well? Are you scared yet?” he sneered. “If you go up against a powerful Director like me, you’re going to lose everything.”

Austin was clinging to his precious corporate title, entirely convinced my words were the empty threats of a helpless housewife.

He had no idea that the woman lying in the hospital bed he had just humiliated was actually the anonymous Chairwoman who owned 51% of Apex Logistics.

The exact same woman who hired him—and the exact same woman who could ruin him with a single email.

And at that very moment, the surprise audit had already begun.
