PART 2: THE HIDDEN FOLDER
Tucked beneath the heavy foam mattress was a thick, dark blue folder sealed with heavy-duty tape.
My hands shook violently as I peeled back the adhesive, desperately listening for any sound of the bathroom door reopening.
Inside were medical documents marked with red “CONFIDENTIAL” stamps, detailed financial charts, and a signed experimental treatment waiver.
My eyes scanned the pages rapidly, catching phrases like “clinical trial,” “high efficacy,” and “complete remission potential.”
This wasn’t a dossier preparing for his death; it was an aggressive, secret plan to fight for his life.
Beside the medical files sat a stack of handwritten letters addressed to me, each one dated for future anniversaries we were told we’d never share.
The bathroom door creaked open, and I hastily shoved the folder back under the mattress, my heart hammering against my ribs.
