PART 3: A PROMISE KEPT

“Her name was Clara,” Albert whispered, his voice thick with decades of unspoken longing and remembrance.

“Sixty years ago, before I went overseas, Clara was the love of my life, but fate drew us apart before I could ever make her my wife.”

He explained how Clara had eventually moved away, married, and built a full, beautiful life of her own.

“When you walked into this facility six months ago, I thought I was seeing a ghost,” Albert continued softly.

“I called Clara’s old family line last week, only to discover that she was your grandmother, who passed away five years ago.”

Albert looked at the small black box in his hand, holding an antique ring that had belonged to Clara’s family.

“I didn’t ask you to marry me for a romantic future,” Albert explained, tears welling in his eyes. “I asked to honor a promise I made sixty years ago to protect her family’s legacy.”
