“Our biological father sent money every single month to an account Uncle Noah never touched,” Claire spoke clearly into the microphone.
“Instead, Uncle Noah worked three jobs, paid off our father’s debts secretly, and kept every single penny saved for our college tuition.”
Gasps rippled through the rows of parents and professors as Ava held up a thick legal ledger showing twenty-two years of quiet, selfless accounting.
“He never told us,” Ava cried, her voice echoing through the speakers. “He let us believe he was just our uncle, while he gave up his entire youth to give us a future.”
The dean stood off to the side, wiping a tear from his eye as he gestured toward where I was kneeling in the aisle.
The entire graduating class slowly rose to their feet, building into a deafening standing ovation that filled every corner of the vast hall.
