“According to the terms set by your late uncle, Walter,” the attorney explained clearly, “you were required to marry a partner of genuine integrity to access the forty-million-dollar inheritance.”
The lawyer pulled out a tablet showing the live recording of my outburst and my admitted confession that I only married him for money.
“Because this marriage was entered under false pretenses and deceit on both sides, the trust is officially voided and redirected to charity,” the lawyer declared.
Both Walter and I stood in total silence, realizing that our mutual greed and deception had cost us everything in a single afternoon.
