PART 2: THE DEVASTATING TRUTH
Walter took a deep breath, his eyes sweeping over the quiet crowd before landing back on me.
“The truth is… I don’t have a single dollar left,” Walter said into the microphone, his voice echoing through the venue. “I lost my entire estate three years ago in a failed real estate venture.”
Gasps erupted from the guests as my heart sank into my stomach, my hands shaking so violently that a few petals fell from my bouquet onto the aisle.
“The suit, the ring, the stories about the mansion—they were all a test,” Walter continued, oblivious to my sheer horror. “I wanted to find a woman who loved me for who I am, not for a bank account.”
I stood there frozen, my mind racing as I realized that the man I had just legally bound myself to was completely destitute.
The gold watch was a fake, the mansion didn’t exist, and the borrowed money for his suit was gone forever.
Before I could even process the humiliation, Walter smiled warmly and held out his hands to me in front of everyone.
