PART 2: THE RECOVERED MEMORIES
Tears spilled down Margaret’s cheeks as she reached into her purse, her hands shaking uncontrollably as she pulled out her own velvet pouch.
From within, she drew out the matching silver half-heart pendant, holding it up into the warm light of the restaurant chandelier.
Noah’s eyes went wide, his small hands immediately reaching up to grip his own locket as he recognized the identical piece of metal.
“Our dad told us our mom held the other half,” Noah whispered, his voice cracking with a mix of wonder and overwhelming disbelief.
“He said she lived far away, but that one day, if we were ever truly lost, the silver would bring us back together.”
The restaurant manager stopped mid-stride, sensing the raw, electric emotion filling the space between the wealthy woman and the homeless boys.
Margaret sank to her knees right on the polished hardwood floor, wrapping her arms around both boys and pulling them close into her chest.
“I never stopped searching for you,” she sobbed into their worn jackets, feeling the warmth of the sons she had grieved for fifteen long years.
