PART 3: THE DEED AND THE TRUTH

Julian took a trembling step forward, trying to maintain a fraction of his usual wealthy composure.

“Listen here, Officer,” Julian insisted, pointing toward the garage. “I have a contract to set up my regional investment office in this house!”

General Vance reached inside his formal trench coat and pulled out a thick, leather-bound binder stamped with a golden military seal.

“Mr. Julian Reynolds,” the General announced loudly enough for the neighbors to hear. “You are currently under federal investigation for illegal financial speculation using fraudulent collateral.”

Julian’s face went completely ghostly white as the binder was opened, revealing hundreds of printed financial audit logs.

“Furthermore,” General Vance added, “the funds you claimed to invest in this property were drawn from a fraudulent mortgage scheme targeting military widows.”

Harper let out a sharp gasp, stumbling backward into my mother, who was now clutching her chest in sheer horror.

I stepped out of the cold garage, walking past my paralyzed family with my head held high, my hand resting gently on my stomach.

“You thought I was weak because I chose to grieve quietly,” I said softly, looking my father directly in the eye. “You mistook my patience for powerlessness.”
