“You’re choosing a dog over your own mother?” Diane shrieked, her voice echoing down the quiet suburban street. “If I walk out that door, Kenny, don’t expect me to come back for Thanksgiving or your birthday!”
“I’m not choosing a dog over my mother,” Kenny said calmly, locking eyes with her. “I’m choosing safety, respect, and my wife over someone who brings cruelty into our home. If you can’t respect our family, you don’t get to be part of it.”
He gently guided our children upstairs so they wouldn’t have to witness the remaining spectacle.
Realizing her usual guilt trips and dramatic outbursts weren’t working, Diane picked up her purse with trembling hands and practically marched out to her car, slamming the front door behind her.
