Vanessa took another sip of champagne and tossed her long hair back. “Since you’re clearly incapable of running the estate, Ethan, your uncle and I spoke with your legal team yesterday. We’re moving forward with transferring your voting shares.”
My uncle Martin stepped forward, clearing his throat awkwardly. “It’s for the good of the company, nephew. You need rest. A paralyzed man can’t lead a board.”
I kept my hands limp in my lap, letting a look of feeble desperation cross my face. “You’re taking everything?”
“Not everything,” Vanessa smirked, leaning down to pat my cheek condescendingly. “We’ll leave you the house… and perhaps your little maid here to feed you.”
Clara stood her ground beside my chair, her jaw set as she glared at Vanessa. “Mr. Vance built this company with his own hands. You have no right to take it from him while he’s recovering.”
“Know your place, girl!” Vanessa’s mother snapped from the crowd. “He’s an invalid now. His place is in the shadows.”
That was all the confirmation I needed. I reached into the side pocket of my wheelchair and pulled out a sleek black remote control, pressing the red button twice.
