PART 3: THE CONFRONTATION IN THE DUST
Inside the bakery, Emily was quietly sweeping the floors while two small cradles sat safely beside the counter. She looked exhausted, her posture weary, yet every gentle motion she made toward the infants was filled with fierce, unconditional love.
Michael pushed the door open, the small bell above ringing softly in the quiet night. Emily turned, freezing the moment her eyes met his, her face draining of all color as she instinctively stepped between him and the cradles.
“Michael…” she whispered, her voice trembling with a mixture of fear and pain. “What are you doing here? You told me to never speak to you again.”
“I didn’t know, Emily,” Michael said, tears welling in his eyes as he took a tentative step forward. “I never got the calls. I never saw the hospital records. I just found out about Ashley’s betrayal tonight.”
Emily stared at him, tears overflowing down her dusty cheeks as she recounted the desperate nights she had spent trying to reach him, only to be met with cold threats from Ashley promising to ruin her completely if she ever approached Michael again.
