PART 2: THE BADGE IN THE SHADOWS
Between the officer’s fingers was a polished leather wallet. He opened it, expecting a bribe or a bluff, but instead, a gleaming bronze shield caught the harsh afternoon sunlight.
Directly below the high-ranking badge was an official credential identifying Victoria as Inspector General of Internal Affairs for the entire state district.
The officer’s hands began to shake violently as he read her full title and authorization credentials. The smug grin on the second officer’s face melted away into absolute, pale horror.
“Inspector… Inspector General,” the first officer stammered, his voice dropping an octave as his broad shoulders shrank in sudden terror.
“You had a duty to identify yourselves, present cause, and treat civilians with respect,” Victoria said, her tone cold and completely devoid of fear. “Instead, you chose physical assault and false imprisonment.”
