PART 3: THE RECKONING AT THE ALTAR

The ceremony music began to play through the grand hall speakers, signaling to the two hundred seated guests that the procession was about to begin. Diane straightened her jacket, giving me a dismissive look as if expecting me to quietly surrender to her manipulation.

“Now, Olivia,” Diane instructed coldly, “you will take your place behind Lauren and pretend nothing happened, or you can walk out that door with absolutely nothing.”

Instead of crying or running away, a profound sense of calm settled over me. I looked at Ethan, the man who had allowed his mother to dismantle my self-respect and hide a mountain of financial lies, and I realized I no longer recognized him.

I adjusted my veil, took the bridal bouquet from Lauren’s shaking hands, and walked straight through the double doors into the main chapel. The organ swelled, and every eye turned toward the aisle as I marched down the carpet alone, holding my head high.

When I reached the front of the chapel, I didn’t take my place beside Ethan. Instead, I took the microphone from the bewildered officiant, turned around to face the entire room of family, friends, and investors, and prepared to reveal the complete truth.
