Damon stood completely frozen, his eyes darting frantically between Dr. Ellery, the medical file, and the pale face of his new wife.
“That’s impossible,” Damon stammered, stepping forward as his confident posture collapsed into raw panic. “We went through three rounds of treatments! The clinic told us—”
“The clinic told you what your modified records claimed,” Dr. Ellery interrupted smoothly, pulling a second set of certified documents from the envelope. “The original diagnostic files were altered prior to your divorce proceedings to hide a very specific truth.”
Tessa backed away toward the wall, holding the crying toddler tightly against her chest as nurses began to gather around the scene.
I took a step closer to Damon, looking into the eyes of the man who had systematically destroyed my reputation to cover his own secrets.
“You knew the truth before you ever filed for divorce, didn’t you, Damon?” I asked quietly, my voice ringing with absolute clarity.
Dr. Ellery turned the page, exposing a bright red laboratory seal stamped across the official summary at the bottom of the form.
“The original tests confirmed that Elise was completely healthy,” Marcus revealed. “The fertility issues in your marriage belonged entirely to you, Mr. Kessler.”
