The guests at the dinner table began gathering their coats in awkward, stunned silence, horrified to realize they had been invited to participate in a cruel setup.

Jessica tried to rush forward to grab the blue folder, but Ms. Reed calmly slid the documents back into her leather briefcase and snapped the lock shut.

“You’re calling the police on your own son?” Jessica shrieked, her composed facade completely shattering into desperate rage.

“I am giving you thirty minutes to pack your personal items and vacate my property,” I replied, handing David a formal notice of termination of tenancy.

“Mom, please, we have nowhere else to go!” David pleaded, his voice cracking as the reality of losing his comfortable lifestyle set in.

“You spent six months planning to put me in a facility to take my house,” I reminded him, standing tall. “You can use your own money to find a hotel.”
