Clara Reed, a senior forensic accountant and estate attorney, pulled a sleek pen from her pocket and adjusted her glasses.
“What you are looking at,” Ms. Reed announced calmly to the quiet room, “is a detailed audit of every unauthorized attempt to alter Mrs. Vance’s private trust over the last one hundred and eighty days.”
Jessica gripped the edge of the dining chair, her knuckles turning bone white as Ms. Reed began turning the pages lined with bank statements, timestamped audio recordings, and hidden camera stills.
“You attempted to forge her signature on three separate home equity loan applications,” Ms. Reed continued, pointing directly at David’s name on a loan document.
David’s jaw dropped as he realized his mother had installed discreet security cameras in her private home office months before the holidays.
“You thought my memory was fading, David,” I spoke up, my voice steady and cold. “In reality, I was simply giving you enough rope to hang yourselves legally.”
