PART 3: THE DESPERATE PLEA

I stepped into the hallway and closed the door behind me, refusing to let their toxic presence cross into the home I had bled to create for my daughter.

“You said our lives were none of your business,” I said softly, my voice like ice. “Why are you standing on my doormat with money and tears?”

Rodrigo dropped to his knees right on the welcome mat, burying his face in his hands as he sobbed openly in front of the neighboring doors.

Ofelia revealed that the son Rodrigo had left me for—the boy he believed would carry his legacy—had turned out not to be his biological child at all, a secret his mistress had kept until stripping him of his fortune in a bitter lawsuit.

Worse still, Rodrigo had recently been diagnosed with a severe, degenerative kidney condition, and after exhaustive testing, the doctors confirmed he had only months to live without a compatible donor match.

“Ximena is his only biological child,” Ofelia wept, clutching the hem of my jacket with desperate, trembling fingers. “She is the only one in the world who can save her father’s life.”
