PART 2: THE BALLROOM SHOCK

Chloe’s smug smile faded slightly as she watched me calmly slip my phone back into my designer handbag.

She tried to regain her composure, smoothing her dress and adjusting her badge with practiced arrogance. “Standing around isn’t going to change anything,” she sneered, crossing her arms.

Instead of leaving, I took my daughter’s hand and walked past her straight toward the private executive elevators.

Chloe gasped and hurried after us, calling for security, but the elevator doors glided open as my master keycard flashed green.

When the doors opened on the top floor, the grand ballroom was bathed in golden light, filled with the city’s most powerful elites.

Dominic stood in the center of the room, holding a champagne glass, laughing beside a stylish woman and a boy about eight years old.

The room quieted as I stepped out, my daughter holding her paper necklace tightly against her chest.
