The screen clearly displayed two distinct heartbeats, but the size of the embryos defied everything David had been led to believe.
“Your wife is eleven weeks pregnant,” the doctor explained, entering the room with a printed file. “Which means conception occurred long before your procedure took place.”
Peyton’s face drained of all color as she quickly tried to interrupt, but the doctor held up a hand to stop her.
“Furthermore, we reviewed the follow-up laboratory results sent from your urologist’s office last month,” the doctor continued, looking straight at David.
“The test confirmed zero sperm count, but the record shows the lab report was delivered directly to an email address belonging to Peyton, not you.”
David turned toward Peyton, the realization of her web of deception finally crashing down upon him.
