I slapped the envelope out of Victoria’s hand, sending hundred-dollar bills scattering across the polished marble floor of the VIP lounge.
“Don’t you dare touch him,” I said, my voice dangerously low as Richard stepped forward, his eyes wide with anger.
“Caleb, don’t be foolish,” Richard snapped, smoothing his expensive suit jacket. “We are offering you a future, a global legacy, and a name that carries real weight.”
My father gently placed his hand on my shoulder, his swollen wrist wrapped in a faded bandage. “Caleb, please… it’s your big day. Don’t fight them for me.”
“I’m not fighting for you, Dad,” I replied, looking directly into Thomas’s tired, loving eyes. “I’m standing up for the man who earned the right to be here.”
Victoria sneered, stepping over the money on the floor. “He’s a janitor! He cleans the toilets in the building where you studied!”
I turned away without giving her another word, taking my father by his uninjured arm and leading him out of the VIP room toward the main auditorium.
The cameras were already flashing as news networks prepared to cover the Valedictorian address, expecting a story of billionaire redemption.
