PART 2: THE REVELATION IN COURT

Derek’s attorney scrambled to organize his papers, his face pale as the judge’s words hung in the heavy silence of the courtroom.

Derek turned to stare at me from across the aisle, his eyes wide with a mixture of shock and mounting terror.

I sat tall at the defense table, my pregnant stomach showing clearly beneath my simple coat, entirely unbothered by his gaze.

My lawyer, Arthur Pendelton, stepped forward and adjusted his glasses before placing a digital audio recorder on the podium.

“Your Honor,” Arthur said, his voice echoing with absolute authority, “we request permission to submit Exhibit A into evidence.”

Derek’s lawyer jumped up to object, but the judge raised her hand, shutting him down before he could even finish his sentence.

The audio file began to play, and Derek’s distinct, smooth voice filled the entire chamber with chilling clarity.

Every detail of his plan was laid bare: how he intended to fake my psychiatric collapse, lock me away, and seize control of my late mother’s trust fund.
