The Ultimatum
“You have twenty-four hours to transfer the full $5,000 back into my mother’s account, plus interest,” I said, my voice ice-cold.
“And you will personally deliver a brand-new, top-of-the-line refrigerator to her house tomorrow morning before noon.”
“If the money isn’t in her account and the appliance isn’t installed by twelve o’clock, Arthur submits this file to the district attorney.”
Mark didn’t hesitate for a single second; he grabbed Lauren’s luxury designer handbag from the floor and tossed it into her lap.
“Sell your bags, sell your jewelry, or call your own family,” Mark ordered coldly, standing up from the dinner table.
“If my mother doesn’t have her money back by tomorrow morning, I’m filing for divorce and letting Arthur do his job.”
Lauren burst into heavy, humiliated tears as she realized her greed and cruelty had completely destroyed her comfortable life in one single evening.
She scrambled out of her chair, clutching her purse, and ran out of the house into the night without saying another word.
