PART 2: THE RECKONING AT NOON

Julian froze in the doorway, his mother’s laugh cutting off mid-breath as her eyes adjusted to the dim hallway.

Sitting on my velvet sofa was my father, Marcus Vance, flanked by two uniformed police officers and a high-ranking detective from the financial crimes division.

Beside them stood a paramedic team quietly finalizing the official medical report of my injuries, complete with high-resolution evidence photographs.

“What is the meaning of this?” Eleanor demanded, her haughty tone wavering slightly as she clutched her designer handbag. “Audrey, what lie have you told these people?”

“She didn’t have to say a word,” my father replied smoothly, standing up to his full six-foot-four height with an aura of absolute authority.

“Her forensic evidence file, however, speaks with remarkable clarity.”

Julian’s eyes darted frantically toward the stairs, realizing his quiet victory had turned into a full-scale legal ambush in less than four hours.
