Beside her, Adam looked visibly troubled, shifting nervously in his leather chair as the family’s high-priced defense attorney presented a damning narrative.
Clara sat beside her young legal intern, clutching her small folder of photographs and letters with white knuckles and a racing heart.
The prosecution painted Clara as an opportunistic fraud, claiming her modest background drove her to betray the very people who fed her.
Every harsh word felt like a physical blow, bringing quiet tears to Clara’s eyes while the spectators in the gallery murmured in cruel agreement.
Just as the judge raised his gavel to rule on the overwhelming circumstantial claims, the heavy oak doors at the back of the courtroom burst open.
