PART 2: THE REVELATION AT THE TABLE

A tense silence washed over the backyard as fifty guests turned their attention toward Dana, whose face had drained of all color.

Ethan rushed down the porch steps, his hands trembling as he tried to intervene before I could say another word. “Claire, sweetheart, let’s not make a scene in front of everyone,” he pleaded, reaching for my arm.

I stepped back out of his reach, picking up the microphone from the rental DJ station beside the patio. “Oh, it’s not a scene, Ethan,” I said, my voice echoing clearly through the speakers. “It’s a celebration of honesty.”

Dana stood frozen near the kitchen door, her eyes darting toward the fence as if searching for an escape route from the crowd of family and friends.

My mother-in-law leaned forward from her front-row seat, her brows furrowed in confusion. “Claire, what on earth are you talking about?”

“Ask Dana,” I said softly into the microphone, pointing directly at my former best friend. “Or better yet, ask her to lift the side of her shirt.”
