PART 4: FOREVER DAD
“Today,” Ava announced proudly, her voice ringing throughout the entire hall, “we officially filed our adult adoption papers. We are no longer legally listed as Nolan’s nieces. We are officially, permanently, and proudly his daughters.”
The entire auditorium erupted into a thunderous standing ovation, thousands of attendees rising to their feet to cheer for the three young women and the man who had raised them.
I couldn’t hold back my sobs any longer as my three girls bypassed the university faculty, walking straight off the stage and down the aisle to throw their arms around me.
We held each other tightly in the center of that crowded room, twenty-two years of burnt dinners, late-night fevers, and unconditional love culminating in one perfect, unbreakable embrace.
