Leo explained how Grandma’s letter made him realize that running away from his grief had only multiplied our heartbreak.
“She told me that parents leave us legacies, but siblings carry those memories together,” Leo whispered, holding my hands tightly.
He confessed that he had spent the last seven months working day and night to pay off our family’s remaining medical debts.
He wanted to come back sooner, but shame had kept him away until Grandma’s words finally shattered his pride.
“I promised her I would be here today,” Leo said, wiping away a tear. “And I promised I would never leave you alone again.”
We stood on the high school lawn, holding each other as years of misunderstanding and unspoken pain finally dissolved.
As we walked toward the parking lot together, Leo revealed one more surprise that made my heart leap.
