PART 2: THE COST OF A DELAY

The stubborn lug nuts on the luxury sedan fought him every inch of the way, seized by rust and neglect. Michael worked furiously, sweat soaking through his button-down shirt as the minutes ticked mercilessly past.

By the time he tightened the final bolt and lowered the jack, his hands were covered in grease, and his watch read 8:20 a.m. He was officially late.

“I can’t thank you enough,” the woman said, handing him a clean microfiber towel from her glove box. “You saved me today. What is your name?”

“Michael,” he replied, wiping his grease-stained fingers hastily. “I’m sorry, I really have to run—I’m going to be severely penalized for this.”

He sprinted back to his worn sedan, ignition roaring to life as he sped toward Morrison Supply Chain Management, praying for a miracle.

When he finally burst through the office doors at 8:27 a.m., exactly 27 minutes late, his ruthless supervisor, Mr. Vance, was already waiting at his desk with a termination notice in hand.
