Nathan stood rooted to the polished hospital floor, his mouth slightly open as his gaze bounced between the twin three-year-old girls clutching my jacket.
Maya and Lily looked up at him with wide, curious eyes—eyes that shared his exact deep hazel shade and distinct arched brows.
Brooke’s polished smile vanished instantly, replaced by a sharp, calculating glare as she looked from the children back to Nathan’s ghost-white face.
“Elena…” Nathan stammered, his usual calm surgical authority completely evaporating into the cold corridor air. “Who… whose children are these?”
“They’re mine, Nathan,” I replied quietly, feeling the weight of three long years finally lifting off my shoulders. “They are the reason I survived that night while you drove away.”
Brooke took a swift step back, grabbing Nathan’s arm with a force that turned her manicured knuckles white. “Nathan, what is she talking about? What night?”
The silence in the hallway stretched thin as nurses and administrative staff began to turn, sensing the dramatic rift unfolding outside Room 407.
