PART 5: The Confrontation
I snapped the journal shut and turned around quickly, my chest heaving as both of my daughters stood silently in the doorway. Their track practice had been canceled, and their calm, unblinking eyes held no trace of childish innocence anymore. My oldest stepped into the room, her voice soft, sweet, and entirely devoid of any remorse or panic as she glanced down at the open lockbox.
“We did it for you, Mom,” she whispered, taking a slow step forward while her sister quietly closed and locked the bedroom door behind them. She explained how each man had shown subtle red flags—a sharp tone, a cold look, a hidden temper—that reminded them of their late father. They had used an odorless, paralyzing sedative mixed into the evening tea, convincing the men to leave their keys behind before escorting them to the abandoned storm cellar behind the woods.
My stomach churned wildly with pure horror as I realized the men were still locked away in the dark, buried beneath the earth.
How were my daughters planning to keep me from calling the police? Go to the next part to discover the horrifying truth…
