Part 4: The Ultimate Investment

Victoria’s confident posture instantly faltered, her cheeks flushing with a mixture of shock and deep embarrassment as Connor stepped into the bright light of the private office.

“Connor!” Victoria stammered, attempting to recover her polished, high-society charm. “I… I was just explaining to Maya the complex nature of our family’s corporate trust agreements and how sensitive our joint real estate investments are to market volatility—”

“You were threatening my Executive Analyst in my own headquarters, Victoria,” Connor interrupted, his voice dropping into an icy, unshakeable register that left no room for negotiation.

He walked over to my side, placing a warm, protective hand on the back of my leather chair, his mere presence instilling an overwhelming sense of security within me.

“Furthermore, you seem to be under a massive delusion regarding who holds the power in this firm,” Connor continued, pulling a blue leather folder from his arm and tossing it onto the desk in front of her.

“As of five o’clock this afternoon, Suncrest Holdings successfully completed the acquisition of the Sterling Private Equity Group’s debt portfolio.”

“Your father’s high-risk commercial loans have been fully bought out, his voting rights on our executive board have been revoked, and his offshore trust accounts are currently under forensic review by federal financial auditors.”

Victoria gasped, her eyes widening in horror as she frantically flipped through the certified legal deeds and corporate injunction forms.

“You… you liquidated our joint development accounts?!” she shrieked, her voice cracking into pure panic. “My father supported your firm when you were building this agency!”

“Your father attempted to use predatory debt agreements to force a hostile corporate takeover of my family’s ancestral waterfront villa estate,” Connor stated with supreme authority.

“The partnership is permanently terminated, Miss Sterling. My private security detail will escort you out of the building, and my corporate legal team will be serving your father with a formal non-disclosure and asset restriction notice tomorrow morning.”

Victoria stood frozen for a moment, her high-society vanity completely shattered, before grabbing her designer handbag and sprinting out of the suite in tears.

The heavy glass door clicked shut, leaving the grand penthouse office in complete, serene silence.

I sat back in my chair, looking up at Connor as the overwhelming weight of his actions washed over me. He had dismantled a multi-million-dollar corporate alliance just to protect my standing and dignity.

“Connor… why did you do that?” I whispered, my voice trembling with deep emotion. “Your company’s expansion relied heavily on their private banking channels.”

Connor didn’t answer right away. He walked over to the floor-to-ceiling windows, looking out at the glittering lights of the city below before turning back to face me.

He slowly reached into his inner jacket pocket and pulled out a small, velvet-lined mahogany box, walking over to my desk and placing it gently beside my laptop.

“When my grandmother passed away fifteen years ago, Maya,” Connor revealed softly, his eyes filled with an intense, unshakeable warmth, “I didn’t abandon you because I forgot my promise.”

“I was taken in by my late father’s estate attorneys, who revealed that my family had been systematically robbed of our ancestral real estate holdings by corporate predators like Arthur Sterling.”

“I had nothing to offer you back then—no money, no status, no legal protection, and a mountain of family debt.”

“I spent fifteen agonizing years working twenty-hour days, mastering corporate law, building private equity funds, and reclaiming every single deed that belonged to my family, all so I could build an empire worthy of bringing you into.”

“Every single milestone I achieved, every luxury property I developed, and every multi-million-dollar contract I signed was done with one single goal in mind.”

He reached out, his long fingers gently opening the mahogany box to reveal a breathtaking, custom-cut solitaire diamond ring set in platinum, sparkling brilliantly under the warm office lights.

“I told you in that courtyard to study hard and grow up,” Connor whispered, stepping closer and taking my hand in his, pulling me up from the chair until I was standing right against his chest.

“You fulfilled your promise, Maya. You built a brilliant, independent future for yourself.”

“Now, it’s time for me to fulfill mine.”

Tears of overwhelming happiness spilled over my eyelashes as a quiet, breathless laugh escaped my lips.

“Is this another corporate recruitment strategy, Mr. Vance?” I teased, wiping a tear from my cheek as my heart soared higher than the skyscraper we stood in.

Connor smiled—the same warm, loving smile that had captured my seven-year-old heart all those years ago—and slipped the magnificent ring onto my finger.

“No, Miss Lin,” he murmured, pulling me into a deep, passionate kiss that sealed fifteen years of waiting, longing, and devotion.

“This is a lifelong merger.”
