PART 2: The Name Over the Intercom

PART 5: The Final Resolution

Daniel’s face went completely ghostly white. His hands began to shake as his eyes darted from me to Sarah, then to the flight crew who were watching the sudden shift in atmosphere.

“Claire…?” he whispered, his voice trembling. “What… what are you doing here?”

“I came to celebrate our anniversary, Daniel,” I said, my voice perfectly clear and steady enough for the entire front cabin to hear. “But it looks like you’ve already made other arrangements.”

Sarah’s eyes widened in horror as the realization hit her. “Wait… you’re his wife?” she stammered, stepping back.

“Twelve years,” I said calmly, looking Daniel straight in the eye. “Don’t bother coming home to Chicago tonight, Daniel. By the time your return flight lands, the locks will be changed, and my attorney will have served the paperwork to your Chief Pilot’s office.”

I turned on my heel and walked off the plane with my head held high, leaving Daniel stammering excuses to both his mistress and his stunned first officer on the jet bridge.

Within two months, the evidence from that flight—including the public announcement and flight records—secured a swift divorce settlement in my favor. He thought he was flying high, but in the end, he was the one who crashed his own life.
