PART 4: Standing at the Jet Bridge
I walked into the lavatory, locked the door, and stared at myself in the mirror. The red dress didn’t represent my weakness anymore—it represented the twelve years of devotion he was throwing away.
I smoothed my hair, wiped away the single tear on my cheek, and made a decision. I wasn’t going to cry, create a mid-air scene, or embarrass myself. I was going to let him ruin himself.
When the flight landed ninety minutes later, the seatbelt sign clicked off. Sarah stood up, pulling a sleek designer bag from the overhead bin and adjusting her hair, waiting eagerly to meet Daniel as he exited the cockpit.
I slipped out of seat 14C and walked up to the front, standing right beside her near the main cabin exit door.
The cockpit door unlatched and swung open. Daniel stepped out, adjusting his captain’s hat with a bright, handsome smile meant entirely for Sarah.
“Did you enjoy the flight, my—”
His voice cut off instantly. His eyes locked onto me standing right next to her, wearing the red dress, my expression completely stone-cold.
