PART 5: The Reckoning
Valeria burst into frantic tears, turning on Mauricio in absolute terror. “You told me it was your performance bonus! You said the money was yours!”
“Shut up, Valeria!” Mauricio panicked, but two uniformed police officers were already stepping through the double boardroom doors, holding out a pair of steel handcuffs.
While Valeria was taken into custody pending immediate trial, I handed Mauricio his official divorce papers alongside an eviction notice for his mother, Lidia, whose apartment rent I had secretly cancelled that morning.
“You wanted a real woman, Mauricio,” I said, standing up and buttoning my suit jacket as the officers led his crying bride away. “Now you can see how a real businesswoman finishes a transaction.”
Six months later, the annulment was final, my company’s funds were fully recovered, and I bought an even larger estate overlooking the city. Mauricio was left working two jobs just to cover his mother’s rent and his ex-wife’s legal fees—a permanent reminder of what happens when you mistake kindness for weakness.
