PART 3: The Boardroom Surprise

The next morning at nine sharp, Mauricio and Valeria marched into the headquarters of Aguilar Enterprises in Polanco, furious and desperate for answers. Valeria was still wearing her wrinkled travel clothes, expecting her junior status in the accounting department to protect her while Mauricio demanded to see me.

They shoved past the receptionist and burst directly into the executive boardroom, where the entire board of directors sat in silence. I was sitting at the head of the polished mahogany table, calmly taking a slow sip of black coffee.

“Sofía! What is the meaning of this illegal nonsense?” Mauricio roared, slamming his hands down onto the table. “You sold our house? You locked my cards? Do you have any idea how embarrassing yesterday was?”

“I certainly do, Mauricio,” I replied smoothly, not even bothering to look up from my iPad. “In fact, the entire board was just watching the high-definition footage of you begging my security guards for entry.”
