PART 3: The Lake Cabin Secret

“My dad worked maintenance up at the lake three years ago,” the teenager explained, pulling his jacket tighter around his shoulders. “Before he passed, he told me your husband was accessing a hidden floor safe in the master bedroom.”

The lake cabin had been left solely to me in my father’s will, a piece of real estate David had repeatedly pressured me to sell over the past six months to cover alleged “bad investments.”

“He isn’t tracking you out of jealousy, ma’am,” the boy continued, his voice heavy with warning. “He’s tracking you to make sure you never go up to that cabin without him knowing.”

Everything began to connect—the missing duplicate keys, the sudden interest in my daily shifts, the unexplained weekend trips David took under the guise of medical conferences.

“Get in the car,” I said suddenly, turning to unlock the passenger door. “You’re coming with me.”
