PART 3: The True Power of Attorney
David gripped the edge of the table, his knuckles turning white. “You have no authority! I built that company! You’re just a Vice President!”
“You built it with Mom’s inheritance thirty-five years ago, Dad,” Claire replied, her voice remaining perfectly steady. “And three years ago, when you signed over voting proxies to secure your early retirement trust, you gave Mom fifty-one percent controlling interest in the holding group.”
My jaw dropped. I looked at Claire, remembering the stack of estate papers she had gently guided me through signing after my knee surgery last year—papers I assumed were just routine medical power-of-attorney updates.
“Mom trusted you with the family legacy,” Claire continued, looking directly at Lydia. “So when you started transferring company assets into offshore accounts six months ago to fund luxury penthouses and private trips, our financial security team flagged it immediately.”
Lydia froze, stepping back slightly from David’s side as her eyes darted toward the exit.
“Every asset you tried to put in Lydia’s name was bought with corporate funds owned entirely by Mom,” Claire declared. “And as of 5:00 PM today, all of those accounts have been legally frozen.”
How did David react to losing everything? Continue reading Part 4 below for the showdown.
