PART 3: The Pull Tab’s Secret
With trembling fingers, I tore open the manila envelope. Inside was a personal letter written in Thomas’s shaky, elegant script, alongside a certified property deed and a safe-deposit box registration.
“My dear Sarah,
If you are reading this, my heart has finally found its peace. When you sat beside my bed on that first rainy Tuesday, you didn’t ask for my story, my status, or my name. You simply offered your warmth.
The pull tab on your finger was a promise. The brass key in your bag belongs to a coastal home in Maine—a sanctuary I built decades ago and never shared with anyone. It is now entirely yours, free of debt or encumbrance.”
Tears blurred my vision as I read his words. But the letter didn’t end there.
“Because you gave me your name without asking for a dime, you are legally my sole surviving spouse. You now hold the controlling voting shares of Vance Maritime. Protect the foundation we built, Sarah. Don’t let them tear it apart.”
How did Thomas’s former partners react when Sarah stepped into the boardroom? Continue reading Part 4 below for the confrontation.
